Writer’s Festival

Posted by Putnam on March 22, 2011

To prepare work for the Writers’ Festival…

  1. Edit and revise your poetry anthology.  Please make sure your name is at the top of each page of poems.  Also, make sure there is a note at the end of each poem that says what poetry technique was used.

                                   example:         “Spring Rain” by Buson

                                                               In the rains of spring,

                                                              An umbrella and raincoat

                                                              Pass by, conversing.

This is an example of a haiku, which is a traditional Japanese poem.

       2.  Edit and revise your ‘Historical Fiction Newsletter.’  Print to labcolor when you are happy with your final product as your best work.

      3. Review all of your files from this year and select the one piece that you feel is your absolute best.  Please make sure it is the highest quality work you are capable of, and print a new copy.

If all of this work is completed early, see Mr. Putnam for early finishers work.

Nutrition

Posted by Putnam on February 22, 2011

Mrs. Lorden has been in recently to talk to us about nutrition, and learn how to read labels.  Think about what you learned and what questions you still have…  Was there anything talked about that surprised you?  What was something new you learned?  Why do you think it is important to know about what you are eating?  Post your response in the comments section.

What’s Worth Learning?

Posted by Putnam on February 16, 2011

I have been thinking about all of the many different lessons we had and topics you’ve been learning about recently, and began to wonder – What do you think is important to learn about?  Are there topics we spend time on in school that you think are important to learn about?  Are there any you think are a waste of your time, and won’t help you become a better person or student?  Is there anything we don’t do that you think we should be learning about?  Please consider this week’s question carefully, as I want your true and thoughtful opinions.

To help you consider this question, use the following list of topics we study to help you form your ideas:

United States geography, nutrition, computer skills, guidance lessons, writing skills, math topics, any specials, citizenship…

Second Half Goals

Posted by Putnam on February 4, 2011

Now that we are into the second half of the school year, I’d like you to take a minute to think about what you’d like to accomplish by the end of the school year.  Consider your most recent report card, NWEA scores, and personal feelings about the progress you’ve been making.  Be as specific with your goals as you can; something like, “I want to get better grades,” isn’t a strong goal.  Something better might be, “I want to become a better reader because I feel like I struggle to understand a lot of assignments.  I plan to do this by getting help making good choices for books, and reading for at least 30 minutes every day.”

Post your goal by logging in and commenting on this post.

Dream big.

Technology Survey

Posted by Putnam on January 5, 2011

I’m curious to know how you use technology in your life, so I’ve put together a survey that I’d like you to complete.  I want you to answer honestly, and take time to think about each response you give.  Your answers will be anonymous -this is one of the only times I will not make you put your name on your work!!  Click on the link below to get started!

Welcome to the Blog!

Posted by Putnam on January 3, 2011

We will be using this blog to review things learned in class, share thoughts, and interact with each other.  You will have the opportunity to respond to a question of the week and to ask questions about the work we’ve done in class.  I’m looking forward to making this new tool a part of learning in the coming weeks and months, and for you to be an active participant!
